Automotive Plastics: gluing tail light plastic, tail light adhesive repair

Question
I have an old Porsche which has a tail light that runs the whole width of the car. The seam at the top has split and I want to glue it. I have tried Epoxy but it does not hold for long.
Can anyone help - thanks

Answer
Hi john,
Tail lights are normally made of acrylic polymer and are easily glued with the appropriate adhesive: methylene chloride. This is a water-like, toxic and flammable substance which you can get with any acrylic sheet dealer or with Tap plastics.
get rid of dust, grease and remnants of epoxy
fill the cracks with adhesive and you'll get a nice joint in a couple of hours.
want a  thicker glue? - get tiny pieces of acrylic of the same color from a broken light into the substance for an hour or so, stir well & apply as indicated. Be careful when doing this!!! a single drop in the wrong place will become a permanent marring in the plastic surface. Please let me know what results did you get.
Tap plastics must have a  free video on the web with directions and how is the applicator (an ear drop container with a syringe needle attached). good luck...
