Automotive Plastics: Epoxy caulking, epoxy compound, exterior paint

Question
I drove through something that appears to be epoxy caulking.  It splashed on the outside of my cars exterior paint.  How can I remove it without harming the paint?

Answer
Hi, Debbie, To make sure whether it is really an epoxy compound you may have to get a sample of the substance and burn it in a flame. the smoke should smell like formaldehide. If it does not, you probably have a substance other than epoxy. let me know what kind of paint ( nitrocellulosic...acrylic...Polyurethane?) so I can suggest a solvent or a possible remedy.
