Automotive Plastics: Scotchgard Paint Protector Film, road gravel, paint coat

Question
Do you have any opinion on this prodect instead of the mask for a auto front protection

Answer
Dear Dana:As we suggest in our plastics repair manual

http://www.bumper2bumperplasticsrepair.com/

Paints are plastic coats with pigments,UV absorbing agents and other components, that if properly formulated by OEMs,are supposed to withstand normal conditions for driving (road gravel, oil & gas spills etc.).

Today's paint systems are made of polyurethane, polyester or epoxy resins that paint manufacturers claim to be apt to meet these conditions. Therefore if you own a brand new car and have damage related to this, I suggest a warranty claim. If you are considering buying the film for an used car then apply further clear coats on top of the existing.

Chips occur as a result of a probably too thin top coat. A thicker paint coat will be  very strong.I think this is only a matter cost.Personally, I have not installed any of these films but I tend to assimilate them to window films.

Films of this kind must adapt to curved surfaces, so they
are not hard enough...

feel free to write again if you want to continue to go any further with this.Thank you for your question.
