Auto Parts: idiot light, dark and stormy night, sonata 4

Question
Hi Mike: My daughter has a 2006 Sonata 4 cyl that is showing different idiot lights. It started with a check engine light, the codes were for a vacuum leak plus a exhaust leak. None of which were found. I had garage turn the light off, only to have it come back on a few days later. Then one night her ABS & Traction Control light comes on. Then went off on her next restart. Few days later her check engine light goes off, for a few days...now it's on again. All this time her car runs normal, no noise or loss of power or fuel mileage. I have heard of this happening on other cars with a battery that was starting to go. Do you think it could be the 12 VT battery starting to go..or should I look elsewhere. ???

Answer
It could be the battery, but if it cranks over enthusiastically then it is almost certainly not.  I would guess that the ECM is failing intermittently  (on the way to failing completely some dark and stormy night).  You need to find a good professional mechanic or go to the dealer.  They can hook up a proper scanner and look at all of the voltages and so forth.  A simple code reader will not provide the level of detail needed to determine what's at fault.
