Auto Parts: Changing a microfilter, bmw 325xi, question thanks

Question
QUESTION: Can I change the microfilter on my 2006 BMW 325xi myself? My warranty just expired and I like to try and change the filter on my own but can't find the information on how to do so. Thank you.

ANSWER:      Sure you can, it's not hard to get at.  Just make sure you get the right one, pulling the old one out and taking it with you wouldn't be a bad idea.  And don't worry about driving with it out, cars got along fine without them for almost 100 years.

QUESTION: Thanks, Mike! That's good news. Now...would you know how I can locate where it is on the car? My owner's manual doesn't show it and I can not find the info on google. Would it be smart to get an actual BMW replacement filter or any brand will do?

Answer
It should be located on the firewall behind the engine.  I doubt if anyone other than BMW will have this one.  When you are in the parts department buying it ask then to print out the exploded-view diagram of the HVAC system, including the filter.  That should make changing it simple.
