Auto Parts: Motor swap, wireing harness, motor swap

Question
Can you take a 3.1 motor out of a 2000 malibu and put it into an 1998 malibu and it hook right up? Or would you have to change the wireing harness and all?

    I doubt it.  Although they are related, they are more like cousins than brother and sister.  GM changed this engine in the middle of the 1999 model year, and the changes were extensive, especially to the electronics.  I don't even know for sure that you could use the same mounting points.  The only way to find out would be to try, and I wouldn't chance it, it's a pretty big job.
