Auto Parts: 2004 Ford Expedition, oxygen sensors, time scanner

Question
i have a 2004 Ford Expedition w/ a 4.6L. its pulling trouble codes for cylinders 1-4 misfire and bank 1 sensor 1 O2 sensor stuck rich. i have replaced all the spark plugs and the "faulty" O2 sensor. Vehicle is still not running right. i can unplug each coil on the #1 side of the engine and it runs the same. is it possible for all 4 coils on one side to go bad at the same time? or is there a possible other problem?
thanks

Answer
Well, it sounds like all four coils are bad.  But, as you said, that doesn't sound very likely.  The ECM has a driver for each injector, and two drivers for the coils, one for the left bank, one for the right bank.  They sort of have to do it that way because of the left and right bank oxygen sensors.  The problem is that the drivers, which act as both power and ground to the low-tension side of each coil, are part of the ECM.  You might try switching with a coil from the other bank.  If the symptom stays on the #1 side, then it's not the coil and you should get a pro to scan the ECM.  I wouldn't just willy-nilly replace any of the expensive parts without first making an effort to find out which ones are bad.  A pro with a real-time scanner/scope will be able to find the trouble fast.
