Auto Parts: 3SFE : RPM Sensor, toyota corona exsior, fuse boxes

Question
Hi, Good day.  I have a '93 Toyota Corona EXsior model. Just one day, I happen to notice that the RPM gauge does not moving/running anymore.  Can you advise where can I check its RPM SENSOR?(if its has one)..

Thank you in advance.

Ariel

Answer
The RPM gauge (commonly called the "tachometer") is an electronic gauge which takes a signal from the ignition system.  If the gauge has stopped working, the most likely thing is that the gauge itself has failed.  It is remotely possible that the connection between the ignition circuit and the gauge has been interrupted somehow, but it is very unlikely.  Now, since this is a Toyota, and Toyota is very fond of fusing every circuit in the car separately, there may be a fuse to blame.  You should check in the two fuse boxes (may even be three, one inside the car and one under the hood with a possible second one under the hood containing mostly relays), and look at the descriptions of their functions in the owner's manual.  If no fuses are blown, then it is almost certainly a bad gauge and this will not be an easy or cheap thing to fix, as the whole dashboard will have to come apart.
