Auto Parts: ABS light, clicking/ticking, and headlights, pep boys, device advice

Question
Sir,
I have a 2000 F150.  About a month ago, while towing a motorcycle trailer, the ABS light came on.  The truck still stops so I haven't had it fixed yet.  Shortly afterwards, I started to hear a clicking/ticking noise from behind the dashboard.  It sounds like a solenoid between the radio and glove box, but I could be wrong.  It doesn't sound like it's in the engine compartment.  Now, the clicking has gotten much more frequent, almost constant, and the headlights won't turn off.  With the switch turned to off, the headlights either stay on, or flicker.

This has happened to me before, but I was able to fix it by unhooking the battery and cleaning the connections.  That didn't work this time.  A mechanic I talked to over the phone tells me to change the GEM, but the truck hasn't been rained on in months, and the GEM is in the wrong place to be making the noise.

What on earth could this be?  I can't go on unhooking the battery every time I get out of my truck.

Answer
Hi Mariano,

I wish I had even a guess for you but I do not do electrical malfunctioning device advice online. I'd need to examine the vehicle as there are too many avenues to take. Sorry.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
