Auto Parts: wiring to electronic speed sender, digital speedometer, gm 200

Question
I have a 1992 extended cab s-10 pickup with a v-8 conversion. truck has a digital speedometer. transplanted tranmission is a 1984 gm 200-4r and was/is set up for cable speedometer. this project was started by someone else and I am trying to finish it. was originally a 5 speed standard transmission. I am trying to figure out which wires (number, color, etc.) were running down to the transmissions sending unit ( no wires currnetly run down below to the transmission, are all pulled up into engine compartment) On a 92 am I looking for two wires or three? am looking to buy an aftermarket hall-effect sender to thread onto the gm transmission but do not know if I should buy a two wire or three wire unit. maybe you could direct me to a wiring diagram.

Answer
Hi Carlton,

Sorry, my wire diagram charts do not go back that far. '84 is pretty old already.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
