Auto Parts: 97 grand cherokee, jeep dana 44, grand cherokee limited

Question
i forgot to mention that this is not only going to be a daily driver but a not so mild trail rig as well. can you tell me how to identify the axles under the truck? i believe its a dana 30 front and either a dana 35 or 44 rear. the problem is the jeep dana 44 under the grand cherokee limited has an aluminum axle housing and actually takes the 35 bearings etc. what would be a compatible swap for these axle's preferably cheap as possible with good aftermarket following. coil springs front and rear, Toyota maybe??

Answer
Hi Robert,

Other answer may be off because I thought you had a Cherokee and not a Grand Cherokee.

Your vehicle uses either a Spicer35 or a Spicer44 axle housing with either 3.55 or 3.73 ratio gearing. Since there are way too many ID numbers to list, give me the ID number from your axle assemblies and I'll let you know what you have. As far as being able to tell you if Toyota axles will swap with your Jeep, at first I'd have to say 'no', but that is only because my interchange program does not work like that. It only does exact interchanges.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
