Auto Parts: 1997 LINCOLN TOWNCAR THERMOSTAT, lincoln towncar, open time

Question
I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY CAR, BUT I GUESS THE THERMOSTAT IS A GOOD PLACE START...SINCE MY CAR SEEMS TO BE OVER-HEATING. I NEED INSTRUCTIONS ON REMOVING/REPLACING MY THERMOSTAT. MY CAR STARTS TO OVER-HEAT AFTER ABOUT 2 MILES OF DRIVING. THERE ISN'T ANY KIND OF LEAK. MY CAR ONLY PICKS UP TO A SLOW 30 MILES AN HOUR..BUT TAKES A LONG TIME TO PICK UP. AND IT USES GAS REALLY QUICK.

Answer
Vickie,

It does indeed sound like your thermostat may be sticking.  You can test it however.  Take it out of the car and put it on a pot of water on the stove.  Keep an eye on the temp and see if/when the thermostat opens.  If it doesn't open, time for a new one.
