Auto Parts: CHANGING CARBS, pep boys, chevy silverado

Question
ON A 1991 CHEVY SILVERADO I AM THINKING ABOUT CHANGING THE THROTTLE BODY TO A 2 OR 4 BARREL STANDARD CARB. BESIDES DISCONNECTING ALL THE SENSORS AND BRAIN WHAT OTHER PARTS WOULD I HAVE TO CHANGE? DISTRIBUTER AND WHAT ELSE?

Answer
Hi Dino,

I don't see why you'd need to change anything other than the pressure from the fuel pump which may be too high for the needle and seat to stop. A bypass with return to the tank will be needed and regulate the pressure no higher than 4PSI.

Everything else should work the same. The distributor won't know how much fuel the engine is getting or HOW it's getting it and the only other thing I can think of is a piece of electrical tape over the SES light so it doesn't drive you nutz.

I like your thinking as I firmly believe carburation is more efficient and more adjustable than EFI.

Good luck.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
