Auto Parts: oxygen sensors, oxygen sensors, 2002 dodge intrepid

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2002 dodge intrepid 2.7L and i was wondering if I would be able to use the oxygen sensors off of a dodge stratus with the same type engine to use on my car? I need all 4 and they are way expensive to buy new so im trying to go to salvage and get them but having no luck so far, thanks for any help you can give me.

ANSWER: Hi Regina,

I have no way to answer your question as I cannot interchange O2 sensors.

I CAN tell you though that not only have I never seen four O2 sensors go bad at the same time but I've yet to see ONE O2 sensor go bad. If your 'mechanic' is reading a SES code that is telling him to replace ALL of your O2 sensors, take your car to an ASE Certified technician an have it actually diagnosed and repaired. The joker you are taking it to now will end up throwing parts at it until YOU'RE broke or until it's fixed. I'm guessing you'll go broke FIRST because it does not seem like he has ANY common sense!

O2 sensors don't go bad, other components upstream go bad and cause the O2 sensor to give false readings which most MECHANICS mis-diagnose as a bad O2 sensor(s). Take your vehicle to a TECHNICIAN and have it fixed right the first time.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.

QUESTION: Thank you so much for answering my question. yeah i did take it and have it scanned but also learned a little trick too, on my car if you turn the ignition to the on position twice and then it will display the codes on the dash where the mileage is displayed.  Those were the codes it also displayed but i also see what you are saying as well, all this started with a bad alternator that went bad and it was fried and i fixed that problem and now this. Hopefully i can find someone that can actually find the problem and fix it.  thank you again for your advice which i think i will follow and i appreciate you taking the time to help me.

Answer
Hi Regina,

Thank you.

If I were you, I'd clear the ECM memory and drive the vehicle for a few days then retrieve the stored SES codes again. This will eliminate false codes and old codes. List them here in a follow-up and I will take a look. It's worth a shot anyway.
