Auto Parts: pontiac sunfire power steering leak, 1997 pontiac sunfire, pontiac sunfire

Question
i have a 1997 pontiac sunfire. yesterday i drove the car for 30 minutes and came back home and after 20 minutes i came outside and there was a huge pile of power steering fluid on my driveway, i checked the fluid level and it was empty. so i bought more and put it in and then drove it around and it didnt leak so i drove it to work and after work about 4 hours there still was no more leak. but the next morning when i went to use the car there was another huge pile of power steering fluid on my driveway and it is getting colder at night so i wonder if the temperature change affects the seals.  is it a bad hose or is the pump bad? what should i do?   thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Jeff,

Unfortunately without actually being able to look at the vehicle, anything I tell you is just a guess.

I'd guess the return line hose is old and dry and not sealing anymore.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
