Auto Parts: 2005 town country headlights blinking, pep boys, srs system

Question
Hello My 2005 town and country headlights are blinking from low beam to high beam to off. I tried to turn them on and some times they won't turn on at all for about 3 seconds. The flashing just stared tonight. And I don't have money to wast trying to hit and miss fixing this. I called this shop by were I live and he said it could cost about $500.00 because it's Electrical work. So do you have any ideas that I can use. Thank you

Floyd Johnson

Answer
Hi Floyd,

I'm pretty sure it is the column switch but have seen that same issue fixed by replacing the dimmer relay(s). Testing the switch is not advised since SRS wiring is close and can be confused with other electrical wiring and if the SRS system is disconnected it may fault or even activate the air bag which could cause serious injury or death. Professional assistance should be sought.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
