Auto Parts: 91 caddy Brougham oil cooloer line replacement, hose clamps, pep boys

Question
I have been searching for replacement oil cooler lies that connect from the oil filter to the radiator for a 1991 Caddilac Brougham with a 5.7 engine. The line leaks at the crimp which I gather is routine. My problem is that I cannot find set of replacement lines without having something custom made. Are there any interchangeable component I can purchase that are equivalent that I could purchase? Or can I create a loop using standard parts to eliminate the lines going into and out of the radiator. The vehicle is not used for towing.

Answer
Hi John,

Yeah, line leaks at the rubber-to-steel connections are common. My suggestion would be to get one or two small worm-style band hose clamps and then cut the metal-crimp from the line by slicing down the side with a wizzor or other cut-off tool but be careful not to damage the steel pipe. You'll notice once you have the cover removed that all that is under it is a rubber-to-steel connection. Wrap both ban clamps around the rubber hose and crimp them both snug.

You could replace the entire piece, but there is no need to.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
