Question
I have been having difficulty with my turn signals.  I replaced the left rear light and all of the bulbs.  It worked well for about 3 weeks.  Now the Hazard lights will blink but none of the turn signals will come on or blink.  Is there a separate blinker part for the turn signals?  I also am having difficulty with the carpet in my van getting soaked when I run the air conditioner.  I had it blown open and that made it worse.  Ever heard of this?

Answer
Hi Shari,

Blown open? Never heard that expression although I do know what you are talking about. If you are speaking of the front A/C, then what is happening is that the condensation building up on the evaporator core when you use the AC is trapped probably by some road debris or maybe a prior under-car collision with a rock or parking barrier or something like that. Whatever the reason, the drip-tube is blocked. I really can't step-by-step you though the process of finding and fixing that problem so my suggestion would be to find another technician or service station to look at it for you and actually fix it.

Ok, the hazard/flashers. There are two separate relays for the turn signals and hazard flashers. My guess however is that the column switch on your van has gone bad which will almost always cause erratic operation of the turn signals. You stated you replaced the light, I'll assume because of a minor collision which may have placed an electrical strain on the column switch that didn't fully go bad for a few weeks.

I hope this helps.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
