Auto Parts: powersteering, power steering pump, pep boys

Question
I have a 94 Cherokee 4.0 just replaced power steering pump. went through bleed procedure, but it still acts like its binding up when still or turning.. drove for a week when i thought was fine.. It started making whine noise like fluid low, and i checked it and it was half low.. So i filled to specs, and tryed again and it spit out it seems like the amount i put in... this air still in system?... thanks...

Answer
Hi William,

that's what is seems like to me. Try doing the bleed proceedure again. If that doesn't work, pull the return line from the rack and drain all the fluid from the rack and the pump. Replace the return line and pull the pressure line. Fill the res and put the pressure line in a bucket. Start the engine and observe how long it takes the pump to use all the fluid. Should be under about fifteen seconds. Any longer than that and you have a bad pump. If it depletes the fluid in about fifteen seconds, it's possible that there is a line restriction which is allowing air to trap.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
