Auto Parts: electric window glitch, suzuki vitara, pep boys

Question
I have a 2001 suzuki vitara where the electric window on the passenger side is sticking. to go down is no problem, but halfway up you can see the window shift a half centimeter and then the motor is struggling to get the window the rest of the way up. It is not in the same spot every time. when I go down after it is stuck, then go up again, it takes a few centimeters before it struggles again. I have sprayed some silicone on the middle rail, and it didnt help. with the door panel off there is very little chance to get in between to see what is causing this problem

Answer
Hi Dwayne,

Sounds like the lower window channel is bad, which means you'll probably have to replace the glass or more likely, the regulator is going bad. the motor is working to get the window up so it is working fine. You should remove the door panel again and reconnect the switch for the window. Lower the window about 1/3 of the way and you should see the lower window channel. Check it thoroughly to make sure it is not cracked or missing some pieces. If the channel is good, lower the window again about another third of the way. Now you should have access to view the regulator rails where the channel is connected. You'll probably see a small broken piece of plastic attached to the arm or arms attaching the channel to the regulator.
If you don't see anything out of place, get a digital camera and take a few good pictures of the regulator in multiple positions, (photos@knucklebusters.us) and I'll see if I can tell something from them.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
