Auto Parts: Windstar suspension, pep boys, air bladder

Question
Are 1995 thru 2003 front strut assemblies all compatible with my 1996 3.8 Canadian made Windstar?  How do I know if mine have air springs?  I notices parts infos mention w/ or without .

Answer
Hi Don,

All 95 thru 98 Windstars, whether air or hydraulic, had interchangeable struts. As a matter of fact, as long as the assemblies are replaced in pairs, if you have air suspension and would like to downgrade to hydraulic, as long as they are replaced in pairs (both fronts or both rears) they will both mount and function.

To determine which strut you have you'll need to look at it. The air suspension strut will be pretty large and have an air bladder inside the spring and at least one plastic pressure supply line whereas the hydraulic style will just be a cartridge and the spring.

Good luck.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
