Auto Parts: gas tank inquiry, ford bronco 2, mileage indicator

Question
can you or someone you know tell me the size of the gas tank on my 88 ford bronco 2 with the 2.9L V6 engine??? Trying to figure out my gas mileage.

Answer
Hi Mathew,

Advertised capacity is 23 gallons.

As far as a fuel mileage indicator, the capacity of the tank is really of no use because you'll never see the 'dry' empty state as it would be nearly impossible for the pick-up to drink every last drop.

Fuel mileage should be calculated from a full tank of fuel. Upon filling the tank record the mileage or reset the trip-odometer and go about your everyday business. When you get to the point that you need to fill the tank again, fill it the same way you did the first time meaning that if you waited for the pump to 'click' off and then took it right out and didn't pump another drop in, do that same procedure the second time. Record the mileage or observe how many miles clicked off over the life of that full tank and then divide that number by the amount of gallons you put into the tank on the second fill-up.

ie. Filled tank: (amount does not matter)
   miles: 0.0
   drove miles: 338.4
2nd fill of tank: 21.86 gal.

So, 338.4 miles divided by 21.86 gallons equals: 15.4803 miles per gallon.

All future tank fill-ups and mileage between them should be recorded and tracked. You'll be able to see the differences after a spark plug change or any other service to see how much it helped or hurt the overall efficiency.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
