Auto Parts: land rover discovery 1, land rover discovery, fuel pump relay

Question
i have a 99 land rover discovery 1 and i have no power to the fuel pump i was told that there was a fusable link maybe under the drivers seat on that model but i dont know witch one it is or if im looking in the right place

Answer
Hi Barry,

Fuseable link is pretty far down the list of possible problems that would cause the fuel pump to not-function. Start with the simple things first and do some component testing before just guessing or having your friends guess for you.

check the fuel-pump relay fuse, the fuel pump relay, the harnesses for both, the ignition switch (for Power) and then test, with a volt-meter, the wire terminals on the pump itself. If power is following the proper route and reaching the tank, obviously the fuseable link is good. Where power stops, you'll find your problem. If power is making it to the pump harness, the pump is probably your issue.

When in doubt, power it up.

Looking for a reputable service technician? My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
