Auto Parts: 1994 acura integra issue, dish detergent, pep boys

Question
I recently bought a 94 acura integra 4dr rs, and I think that the suspension or shocks might be bad because the front right side of the car is squeaky when it hits bumps or when turning fairly sharply. I do not know much about cars, but when I called a mechanic and they said it would cost 250+ to fix the problem (per wheel/shock), I felt that was a bit much. Is there a cheaper solution? Also, just to give you a better idea about my problem, when the car is parked, and I push down on the right side of the hood, it makes the same squeaking noise. what should I do?

Answer
Hi Tim,

Answer me this, when you push down on the corner of the vehicle HARD, does it keep bouncing or does it rebound and stop?

Keeps bouncing: replace the strut/shock. It is bad. Get a second opinion or take your vehicle to another shop for an estimate.

Rebounds and stops: get an old Windex bottle or any spray-type bottle. Fill with warm water and about a half of a cup of dish detergent. Dawn works the best. Spray EVERYTHING under and around your suspension. Periodically while spraying, joust the vehicle to see if you've hit the squeak. Spray ALL rubberized items as well as, helk, spray everything. Nothing under there is harmed by soap and water so have a blast.

My advice on finding a good technician is: Steer clear of the dealership and 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
