Auto Parts: Electric Truck Closer, cadillac sts, injection mold

Question
QUESTION: 1997 CAdillac STS.  How do I replace the electric trunk closer mechanism?  It only works intermittently.

ANSWER: Hi Dave,

So it doesn't close/latch? it doesn't pull down? or it does not unlatch? There are three separate control mechanisms that work the opening/closing of your deck-lid. Which one(s) is/are bad?

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.

QUESTION: The trunk does not close/latch as the mechanism does not always raise the latch.  When it does raise most times it will not pull the trunk closed.  It always unlatches. I always assumed it was one mechanism, obviously incorrect. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Dave,

Yes, three separate items. there is a solenoid control for the release (mounted on the deck lid), a latch mechanism for holding the lid closed (the mechanical, key-operated part) and a motor assembly used for pulling the lid completely closed.

Another question first:

Is the item pictured at the below URL's the same item in your trunk?

That is the piece, or similar in design to it, that is broken on your car (I believe). The gear set-up is cheap nylon injection mold and the piece in certain spots is rather thin and prone to breaking if the deck lid is not always gently closed.

I have one of these in my shop and I'm sure I have several more on selected cars on my lot. I currently have these listed on eBay for $50.00 plus shipping. If this is the item you need, I'll ship it to you at my expense. So $50 total.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
