Auto Parts: 4.3l Engine Replacement, blazer s10, s10 blazer

Question
I have a customer who has a 1999 silverado 4.3L manual transmission and is replacing his engine.  I sent him an engine out of a 1999 s10 blazer 4.3L automatic.  The customer switched the flywheel/flexplate from his engine to the new engine and put a new pilot bearing in and is now saying that the transmission wont bolt up.  He says that it is almost like the crank is not machined out enough and there is a lip preventing the shaft from the tranny to go all the way in.  Have any ideas what may be going on here?  I sold a ton of 4.3L engines and have never ran into a problem like this.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Jamie,

Here is the complete interchange for the '99 Silverado. Your direct interchange (the vehicle the engine is going into) is the "C" interchange. Not unexpected, the interchange for the Blazer engine is also the "C" interchange so those two should be exact-fit UNLESS someone was in there before you and switched out the engine or trans previously.

I don't see anything that would indicate a pilot-hole difference.

Perhaps your customers' vehicle is incorrect and/or the trans isn't original and modifications have already been made.

I wish I could offer you more insight. Have him send you photos of the differences. Most times a photo can clear things up pretty quickly.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
