Auto Parts: Jap spec drive shaft, rear driveshaft, axle shaft

QUESTION: Hi,
I have an 86 Honda civic with a Japspec ZC d168a engine and gearbox. My problem is that i don't know what drive shafts are interchangable from any honda to suite this engine. Could you please let me know if you know what drive shafts I can use as mine are destroyed?

ANSWER: Hi Belal,

The interchange for your rear driveshaft is:

CIVIC 85-86 (4WD)

ONLY the 4WD models used rear driveshafts, if you are asking about a FWD axle-shaft, please send a follow-up.

ANSWER: Hi Belal,

Would need to know if your vehicle is a hatchback, a sedan or a station wagon. I would only have the interchange for the assembly, not by piece. An axle half-shaft is the piece from the hub to the transaxle housing which includes two CV-style joints.

Hi Belal,

The interchange for the axle-shafts on your vehicle are as follows:

CIVIC 84 Front Axle
CIVIC 85-87 Front Axle; HB (3 Dr)
CIVIC 85-87 Front Axle; SW (5 Dr), 2WD
CIVIC 85-87 Front Axle; Sdn (4 Dr)
CRX 84 1500
CRX 85-87 exc. HF

The interchange does NOT specify a difference between auto and manual equipped vehicles so it is assumed they are interchangeable as well. Your exact interchange is: CIVIC 85-87 Front Axle; HB (3 Dr) which breaks down as all 1985, 1986 and 1987 Honda Civic Hatchback models, dealing with the FRONT axle, will interchange that half-shaft and also any 1985-1987 Station wagon will also fit (only the 2WD models though) and 1985-1987 Sedan models. If a Civic is hard to locate, 1984 thru 1987 CRX's will also fit but the 1984 CRX needs to be equipped with a 1.5L engine (1500cc) and the 1985-1987 CRX's will work as long as it is not removed from the HF model.
