Auto Parts: loss of power 2001 Nissan Frontier, trust your mechanic, nissan frontier

Question
late last year i replaced the entire throttle chamber including the Fuel Pump and Air Filter due to a power loss diagnostic by the mechanic. 8 months later the vehicle is exhibiting the same symptoms as before. the mechanic wants to replace the throttle chamber again. i don't think that this will solve the problem. can you help?

Answer
Hi Francis,

If the symptoms are the same, I can't see your factual basis for not trusting the diagnosis? If the problem lied elsewhere, replacing the TBI wouldn't fix it.

If you don't trust your mechanic and are interested in a second opinion or a new person to work on your vehicle(s), my advice on finding a new technician is steer clear of 'chain' stores like Firestone, Sears, Pep Boys, Monro Muffler/Brake, Midas, etc. as they usually only employ ONE ASE Certified Tech just so they can say they do and chances are, that guy is the asst. manager or manager and is not in the store to diagnose/repair vehicles anyway. Find a service location in the link below or get some names out of the yellow-pages and do a drive-by. Garages that employ ASE Certified Technicians will be marked with the 'Blue-Seal' insignia. If unsure about whether a place employs Certified Techs, just ask to see their credentials. ALL ASE Certified Technicians will be PROUD to show and display their certificate(s).

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
