Auto Parts: 1987 22r truck w/ a 1985 22r head, toyota 4x4, exhaust ports

Question
I have just recently purchased a 1987 toyota 4x4. The original head was beyond repair, so I purchased a 1985 22r head will it work?

Answer
Hi Chad,

The interchange for YOUR head is:
TOYOTA PICKUP 85-87 gas, carb (22R eng)
TOYOTA PICKUP 88 4 cyl, carb (22R eng)
TOYOTA PICKUP 89-90 4 cyl, 22R eng
Notes:
Switching the exhaust manifolds thru '88 & from '89 on may be a problem. Between the center exhaust ports are untapped mounting boses thru '88, drill & tap and all exhaust manifolds will fit.
SOHC.
Valve cover has square corners.

So to answer your question, yes, the head from the '85 should work no problem as long as they are both carburetted gas engines.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
