Answer
Hi Willie,

Unfortunately, this is what estimates are for, so you know what you are being charged for prior to authorizing the work. If you did get an estimate and it is more than 10% greater than the initial quote and you were NOT notified of the increase, you can dispute the added charges but know that your mechanic WILL or could exercise his right to a mechanics lien on the vehicle for the work performed until your payment is received in full or other arrangements are made between the two of you.

If your vehicle has a v-6 engine, valve cover replacement and O2 sensor replacement are not simple, ten minute jobs. On most v-6's the rear cover is very difficult to access and so are the plugs which require a special tool to even be able to access the rear ones.

I do agree that $1000.00 is excessive for the work performed, but if the work is to your satisfaction, the mechanic did what you asked him to do and deserves to receive payment in-full.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
