Auto Parts: horsepower, air force pilot, u s air force

Question
This is probably an irrelevent question for almost any mechanic but I am sure curious.

I am trying to compare the horsepower of a locomotive to a jet engine.  A locomotive has around 6-7000 horsepower, but a jet engine is measured in "thrust"  I cannot figure out how to convert thrust to horsepower.  If you can't answer maybe you can tell me where to get the information?

Thanks

Answer
Hey Charles. Awesome question. Unfortunately no answer from my buddy who has been a U.S. Air Force pilot for 20   years AND a hobby mechanic. The reason he gave is that "thrust" is the measurement of how much pressure is put on something like you pushing against a brick wall and "horsepower" describes how much motion is put on something to move it. You would measure your pushing against a wall in thrust and you throwing a ball as how much horsepower your arm has. Sorry I can't provide a conversion for you. Happy Holidays. Greg
