Auto Parts: 95 chev caprice SS V8 4.3L (trans. slip/gas gauge), caprice ss, gas gauge


Question
-auto trans. slipping around 40 mph starts to slip and accelerate to catch
-just got fuel pump replaced cost $550 in all
now my gas gauge doesn't work put gas in and doesn't move reads no gas,
low-fuel light stays on
please help find the cause my little brothers car and i am helping pay to
repair it i really appreciate your time and expertise this is helpful

Hi R.T.,
The fuel gage issue may be as simple as the mechanic installing the unit forgot to attach the sender harness. I 'think' on those models there were TWO harnesses going to the fuel cell. One powered the pump and the other received signal for the float and LFW lamp. Easiest thing to do is follow the wires from under the vehicle to the pump inside the tank and make sure it is connected. If all the wiring is attached, and attached good without corrosion, you'r problem is probably the sender unit or the connector INSIDE the tank. I would return it to the mechanic that 'fixed' it originally and have him find and repair the problem.
As far as the transmission is concerned, you'll be looking for another one of those. Once a gear begins to slip, it's too far gone to 'quick-fix'.
