Auto Parts: 1997 Pontiac Sunfire will not start..., 1997 pontiac sunfire, replacement starters

Question
Hey, I've heard sunfire's have had this problem somewhat frequently and want to know what the problem on mine is. It's a 4 door and I bought it about 6 months ago and the only thing I needed fixed was an alternater and that was right about when I got it and now my 2nd problem. Won't start...I hear cranking/clicking and the lights come on and radio would play so must not be the battery. Is it the starter? My friend says it is and I just want to know for sure, if so...whats the average cost for a new and used starter? (ballpark) Thanks, any help is appreciated...

Answer
Hi Blaine,

Yes, I would say the starter went bad. Here's some links for replacement starters- I have used both stores for online shopping and have always had great experiences.

(I used the 2.2 because I think that's the most common size engine, but if it's not yours you can click on "replacement parts" up top and change your vehicle to be correct.) This one has new and remanufactured parts:

This link may give you an error, if so, just go to autozone.com and select your vehicle then choose "starter" in the search for parts, they have two and they're both only remanufactured:

Just to let you know, in case you don't-the core charge is what you have to pay as well. When you send them back YOUR BAD starter, you will get your core charge refunded to you. Just something to think about.

Have a great day
