Auto Parts: fuel filters, trap particles, gasoline fuel

Question
I would like to purchase a cheap and light fuel filter for my diesel engine.  Can I use a gasoline fuel filter?

Answer
I'm not completely versed in Diesel technology but from what I know, diesel is less refined and slightly 'thicker' than gasoline so the micron-filters used to trap particles in gasoline may actually trap fuel particles of diesel and clog the filter especially in the colder, winter months when the fuel oil is even thicker. Probably not worth the small amount of money you'd save buying a less expensive filter that is most likely not designed to do the job you're asking it to do.

Thanks for asking a question!
