Auto Parts: Aluminum Wheels Stress Cracks, stress cracks, aluminum wheels

Question
I have several hairline stress cracks where the spokes meet the rim of the wheels, and a couple that are at the rim running perpendicular to the edge of the rim.  I am concerned that the wheel is not safe and will come apart.  What should we do with these wheels?  Is is safe to run them? or should we replace them...?  The wheels are 5 yrs old.  They are 17" and have low profile tubeless tires. They are on a Honda Civic Si model.  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hey Mike,

I would be very careful of those wheels. If you hit a pot hole or anything they could break. I would replace them before doing too much more driving. You should be able to get some rims for not too much from a junk yard,or, if you really like those, you can take them to someone who repairs rims.Look in the yellow pages.Good luck.
