Auto Parts: Squeaky Brakes, groove time, squeaky brakes

Question
Hello...I need help diagnosing a problem. While driving at low speeds I can hear a constant squealing noise from my brakes...it is most evident when turning right. The noise completely goes away when I apply my brakes even a little bit, then starts again when I let go. I also notice a slight "strobing" of the brake when I lightly apply it.
Does this mean I have worn or warped rotors that should be replaced or just brake pads...or both?

I took the wheel off and looked at my pads and they seem to be at around 50% still.

Thanks,
Neal

Answer
This would be your brake pads or your rotors. Most of the time when you hear squealing it just means you have either moisture between the rotor and the pad or you rotors need to be resurfaced! Try braking at the same time giving it gas to burn away moisture. Also most pads come with a little piece of metal inbedded in the last 35-40 % of the pad so it will squeal when pad gets low.  Your best bet is to change out pads and have your rotors resurfaced. Check your rotors after the cool off for grooves. do this by running your finger nail across rotor if you snag a groove...time for resurfacing! the only way your rotors will be warped is if they have been over heated, this would happen when there is no pad left and its metal to metal when braking.  Go some where for a FREE BRAKE inspection then go from there!
