Car Alarms: 1998 Ford Windstar factory alarm, locking all the doors, ford windstar

Question
QUESTION: Hi ALARMTEK,

I saw your answer to a post about alarms activating randomly, and grounding the green/purple to the chassis. I have done this on my 1998 Windstar, and I can still activate the alarm with my keyfob, which makes me think it is still going to go off randomly. Do you have any other suggestion on how I can totally disable this system?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Wade

ANSWER: The OEM system honks the horn, flashes the headlights and
that's it. When grounding that wire, it won't allow the OEM
anti-theft system to trigger upon illegal entry,
but it would still retain honk n flash when you press panic
on a remote. Different trigger.

Done by RF signal, not by auto detecting battery/12 volt drain
like from a door triggered dome light.

If it was an after market system you have there,
a siren and flashing marker lights and possibly
a shock/impact sensor would be part of the mix.
But I am assuming it's the former.

This help?

QUESTION: Thank you, yes it does indeed help.

It is an OEM alarm.I also tested it by locking all the doors (with the windows down), and reaching inside to open the door with the door handle. The  alarm (horn, lights) went off. We checked with an ohmmeter to ensure we were grounded. We left the wire connected to the harness.

Was I supposed to cut the wire so it was no longer in the system?

Also, I want to say I was super impressed by how fast you responded! I only checked my email because I was waiting for something else - and saw your reply. Very impressive.

Best regards,
Wade

ANSWER: Thanks. I think that most folks want a speedy response when
asking for help here, even if it's "I can't help".

ok, this is from 5 databases I use here:

Alarm Disarm  DARK GREEN/VIOLET  (-)  DRIVERS KICK PANEL
so, logically, it's coming inside the drivers and passenger
side door jamb. Please verify you are correctly fastened
to the correct wire.

Once done, the factory alarm can't arm itself in
this 1998 Japanese/American vehicle (Mazda).

Just splice into and ground. If not working that way,
there is something else in there you may not
be aware of.

QUESTION: Hi RM-ALARMTEK

'98 WINDSTAR FACTORY ALARM

I'm back - My alarm (horn/lights) is going off randomly still. I should tell you that the wire I grounded to the chassis was on the passenger side, as I could more easily remove that kick panel. Should I try the same wire (green/purple, I believe) on the driver's side? Does it make a difference?

Also, my alarm (horn/lights) sometimes activate as soon as I turn off the ignition, and I have to deactivate it the same way I do the random alarms, by putting the key in the door lock and turning.

Sorry to be such a troublemaker, but I don't want to be lynched by my neighbors...

Best regards,
Wade

splicing wire
Ok, yes go ahead and ground the dark GREEN/PURPLE at the
drivers side door.

If no joy, remember, door damage, or low batter can and does
trigger a Ford alarm. Make sure they are up to snuff.

See attached file for proper method to splice.

Try again :>)
