Car Alarms: IT WONT START -FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION, odbii scanner, alarmtek

Question
how can i Disabling the anti-theft system of 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 IT WONT START

Answer
These are the only ways I know to get around the PATS system
short of taking the whole thing to Ford. If you can not start
your Ford vehicle due to the PATS transponder system,
Dont waste time reading the owners manual because its impossible
to completely disable PATS, you can only "band aid" & get around it.

"My car would not start due to PATS P1260 code."

This is probably due to either a bad transponder in both keys,
bad transceiver ring in ignitions switch, or even a bad diode in PCM.
Or maybe another problem all together. Who knows. And I don't care as
I'm not going to pay to have this crap diagnosed and fixed at the dealership.
I like you have got better things to spend my money on right now.

Ok, Here's The ALARMTEK fix:

1. All I heard was: "Grab both keys, and have the car towed to a dealership.
If you lost a key, you'll need to have one made at the dealership
and have it programmed. PATS will not work without 2 keys."
(for me, a non starter statement. I am not paying Ford anything!)

2. So I Disconnected battery for 1 hour.

3. I Pumped the brakes to bleed off any excess voltage in the system.

4. I then Reconnected battery.

5. Next I Auquired an ODBII SCANNER
(or, you can contact your mechanic/tune up service)
I Pluged in the Tuner to OBDII port (with key off) and begin the
programming process of uploading the "new PATS disabled tune file",
following the prompts & completed that process.

6. The car fired right up. The Theft light did continue to
blink intermittently, but not in a fast pattern like it did prior.

7. I Ran a DTC scan and the P1260 is gone, but you do get a P1000 readiness code.

8. I then followed the instructions on going through the Ford Drive Cycle process
to address & reset this code @ http://www.obdii.com/drivecycleford.html

9. Job Completed."

If by some off chance have an SCT programmer for the car,
or, if the car is tuned by someone else, call them and have
him and have him go into your car's **tune file and disable the PATS.
than they will have to email the tune file to you, & than you load
the file from your computer to your SCT handheld,
and load the car with the new PATS disabled tune file.
Non Envasive and doable with the right equipment at both ends.

**Since we own one,
We simply contacted SCT.(http://www.sctflash.com/tsupdates.php)
& requested to have PATS disabled in my two custom tune files.
An SCT tech emailed me two updated tunes with PATS disabled,
along with instructions on how to upload an email tune file
into SCT XCal2 (my tuner) using a free to download software
called LiveLoad Ford 2.2.12.1 from sctflash.com

You do not need to email them your tunes, they already
have them in their file system based on your AM Order#.
There are different loader softwares for different model
SCT flash tuners. You just pick the one for your model
in the drop down menu. This is also a good time to verify
you have the latest firmware loaded in your tuner.
sctflash.com has all the info and instructions on how to
address that.

**The updated tune files were free of charge as part of
AM's lifetime tune policy.

ADDITIONAL PATS TECH NOTES:

The car WILL run with only 1 key, however when it
comes time to program a new one, its better to do a "key code erase"
(which requires 2 keys in the tech's hand)
I think you need to take it in and have
this procedure done.. make sure you provide them with 2 keys.
they dont have to be brand new.
www.ebay.com keyword, Ford PATS keys

If only one key is programmed the engine will start,
but PATS will throw DTC B1213.

A side note: setting the PATS "disable" flag in the tune does not
actually disable the system. PATS goes on doing its thing,
but the PCM ignores the theft message from the cluster
and allows the engine to start anyway.
