Car Alarms: Deactivate alarm in Toyota corolla 2001, toyota corolla 2001, blinking red light

Question
Hello,

The alarm in my Corolla activates whenever I unplug the battery. I figured out how to turn the alarm off - switch key to on then press valet switch. But I'd like to know if there's any way to completely deactivate the alarm without having to manually remove it. The dealer says it will cost $130 just for them to look at it before they attempt to remove it!

Once the alarm is activated it will eventually deactivate itself after a few weeks - until I have to unplug the battery again.  My car does not have power locks or windows. If he alarm is set off it will not start and there is an interior beeping - no loud alarm outside. There is a small blinking red light on the far left side of the dash just left of the steering column. The valet switch is located under the dash left of the pedals near the floor. It is a black spring loaded push switch.  The car came new with the alarm from the dealer.  Any way to turn this thing off beyond the temporary valet switch?  Thanks in advance for the help.
