Car Alarms: alarm goes off when car is locked, alarmtek, dash area

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2003 ford explorer that has the alarm go off intermittently after the car is parked and locked.  It doesn't happen all the time but it's happened enough that I no longer lock it for fear that it will go off in the middle of the night.  Also, it doesn't go off right away when I hit the lock button, it seems to take some time and then out of nowhere, bang, there it is.  Weird.

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

"GOING OFF?"

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: It's the headlights flashing and car horn honking.  Usually followed by a wife that wants a new car...

Answer
Factory alarms are dependent on a good battery and a door
trigger system that is intact.

Check for bad bulbs, and be certain the the power is
up to snuff.

There are ways to deal with this, but they all have to do with
disabling the security. She does not sound like that would work
for her.
