Car Alarms: Un-Installing an Aftermarket System, code alarm, ford ranger

Question
I recently bought an 02 Ford Ranger that had an aftermarket alarm system (Code Alarm).  I do not have any manual or information about the alarm other than what I have printed from online sources, but since I don't know the model number of the system the information I have is pretty generic.  I do know from tracing what wires I could that the vehicle's starter is tied into this system and that if disabled incorrectly my truck will not be able to be started.  The system has been giving me problems and I want it gone, but how difficult is it to uninstall?  Some sources say it is a matter of just disconnecting all the wires and pulling out the brain, but it seems to me this is over-simplifying the process.  Also, so far I have been unable to find a local shop to do this for me.

Answer
Try the installers at the local Best Buy for removal service
if you don't want to do it yourself.

You will do 90% of the de install by unplugging and removal
of each wire and repairing as you go with black E tape,
but you would likely need to remove any relayed starter kill
installed as well.

If doing it yourself, www.REMOVESECURITY.con is set up for
that sort of project.

But like I said, if wanting a pro (or semi pro in the case
of most Best Buy installers-but competant enough to do
an extraction I'd think) Go to the back of any B.B's for
they're rates.

Good luck.
