Car Alarms: Toyota 2006 Rav4 Alarm constantly goes off, alarmtek, dash area

Question
QUESTION: My car alarm constantly goes off for no reason. I have not recently done anything to the car, like replacing the battery. Any suggestions? How to disarm the alarm?
Thanks!

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

"GOES OFF?"

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: seems to be aftermarket by the way you are describing. The horn honks and the lights flash, I am not aware of any light blinking though. The alarm seems to be set off by something as simple as cars passing on the street. It starts to honk and flash every couple minutes at my work.

Answer
Ok,the installer likely installed an impact
sensor, & it's turned up too high.

Have an installer (after market/contractor) that
Toyota uses, tweek it to your liking, and answer
any other questions you might want to jot down, so you
are aware of all of it's capabilities and any drawbacks
it may present down the line.

That would make for a better overall experience
for you in the long term.

For now to disable it,
you'll need to set off the alarm for a few seconds.
Then, look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.

The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode to see if this was corrected.

But if it does work, I'd keep it this way, and
replace the alarm asap with one you know and
understand how it operates for the best overall
experience.

Let me know if it works for yours.
