Car Alarms: Honda Civic Car Alarm, car alarm installer, alarmtek

Question
My mother has a 2001 honda civic.  The car sets the alarm by itself even if the doors are unlocked, or even if you are still sitting in the car, but have turned off the ignition.  This does not seem right to me. She is the original owner.  She bought the car from the dealership and believes the alarm system is factory installed.  Can you offer any advice on this?  One dealership told her this was normal.

Answer
Hmmm, ok, to begin with "factory alarms" do NOT arm themselves.
So it is likely they installed it at the point of sale.

Aftermarket systems "see" the ignition and will
arm after 30 seconds when the ignition is turned off,
and the doors are closed.

My bet is that the tech who installed it left it in "passive arming".

I suggest you go to a car alarm installer and have this evaluated
and to make any programming changes or, feature settings
to correct this and make it easier for mom.

Best way realy. Just spit balling here without
being able to inspect under the dash. :>(

I hope this helped.
