Car Alarms: auto start, alarmtek, valet 551t

I have a auto-mate 3 alarm installed i my van. Along with that I have a valet 551T auto start unit. After many years of service I think that the auto start unit is failing. While driving the van the engine will randomly shutdown as if you have stepped on the brake while the auto start feature is in use. The engine just dies no sputtering or chugging that is why I think that the auto start feature is the problem. I disconnected the wire harness that goes to the unit but now the alarm will set itself even if the car is running with the key in it. Any help will be appreciated
