Car Alarms: 2001 Explorer Sport Anti Theft, gauge panel, starter relay

Question
I have a 2001 explorer sport that I bought used recently.  The stock theft system I believe is malfunctioning.  At first, I would have to push the unlock button on my ford key fob in order to start the car.  For some reason, the system seemed to disconnect the starter relay.  All the lights would work and interior lights and everything.  No alarm would sound, just the blinking theft light in the gauge panel.  Then, I discovered that if I left the door open longer than 45 seconds, the system would trigger and I wouldn't be able to start the car for a good while.  Now, the car has been sitting in my driveway unable to start for the last two days.  It's the strangest thing I've ever seen.  Is there any way to disable the theft system?  Please help.  Thanks.
