Car Alarms: 95 Mazda Protege Silencer, mazda protege, 12 volt

Question
About 3 or 4 times this week my car will not start after clicking on the silencer remote button. I tried several times and had to stop. I waited patiently for a few minutes and when I tried it again, the car started. I'm assuming that the problem is that the switch in the circuit is not making proper contact. I need to know where the problem lies and how to fix it or disable the silencer all together. What would be the most cost effective? The car has over 184,000 miles, so I don't want to spend alot of money, but I also don't want to be without transportation before I'm ready to purchase a new car. Thanks!
