Car Alarms: Silencer Vehicle Alarm, jeep grand cherokee, site search engine

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with dealer installed Silencer Vehicle Alarm  Model 5900/6900 #D53, using SH series Interface harness with built in starter disable.  It suddenly has ceased to work. The vehicle can now be started without using the Silencer key. My husband thinks he has heard a relay noise when we have previously started the vehicle.  Any suggestions as to how to make this unit operational again?  What are the chances of not being able to start the vehicle when I come out from shopping ?
