Car Alarms: reply to your advice, dodge ram 2500, engine cranks

Question
QUESTION: My son let me have his 1998 Dodge Ram 2500. I have had it sitting in my carport for a couple of months and would turn on the engine every so often so battery wouldn't die out. I went to start it the other day. Engine would not turn over at all (no sound when I turned the key) and a red "Security" light was flashing on the dash, as well as the emergency lights flashing on and off. A friend told me that his Dodge 1500 had the same thing happen when the battery died. I tried charging it, but engine turns on and dies right away. Please help! I need to know what to do. Thanks!

ANSWER: Seems like you may have 2 systems in there. 1 factory,
1 after market.

To start, put the key in the drivers door, turn hard left,
then all the way right to disarm and unlock.

That should turn off the factor alarm.
If the LED light is still flashing and NO START
happens, not even cranking, then it may be after
market and a valet switch would be under the drivers side
dash to reset it.

Try the door first and let me know what you discover.

QUESTION: Tried the key in driver door method. LED light still flashing. Engine cranks/starts but cuts off. There is no switch under driver side. Only black button which I press and nothing happens.

Answer
Hmmmm,
Make sure you do the procedure correctly.
Might have missed a step:

PUT IGNITION KEY IN IGNITION,
KEY ON TO JUST BEFORE CRANKING THE ENGINE.
PRESS IN AND HOLD VALET SWITCH
UNTIL YOU GET A RESPONCE
FROM THE ALARM.

KEY OFF.

This should toggle the alarm in and out of
valet/override.

If toggle type switch.
KEY ON, FLIP SWITCH, KEY OFF,
START THE CAR.

I hope this solved it for you.
If not. look forward to removal/replacement
or repair.
