Car Alarms: aftermarket alarm system, dodge caravan, flip switch

Question
Have used 2000 Dodge Caravan. There is a red light/button flashing on the dash near the steering wheel. When I open the door the flashers go off and car will not start.I checked to see if van was equipped for keyless entry and it is not. I tried locking/unlocking all doors as suggested by service department and no luck. The button looks a little cheesy.I gather this alarm system was installed aftermarket. I do not have a book on the van and do not know what to do. HELP! I need my van running.

Answer
Make sure you do the procedure correctly.
Might have missed a step:

PUT IGNITION KEY IN IGNITION,
KEY ON TO JUST BEFORE CRANKING THE ENGINE.
PRESS IN AND HOLD VALET SWITCH
UNTIL YOU GET A RESPONCE
FROM THE ALARM.

KEY OFF.

This should toggle the alarm in and out of
valet/override.

If toggle type switch.
KEY ON, FLIP SWITCH, KEY OFF,
START THE CAR.

I hope this solved it for you.
If not. look forward to removal/replacement
or repair.
