Car Alarms: Accidental arming, valet mode, dash area

Question
I am a grandma being blamed by my son-in=law for somehow arming their 1999 Toyota Tacoma's car alarm. I locked the car with the key when I got home, and was in the house when the kids got home %26 tried to start the car,  the alarm went off.I didn't even know it had one. Could I have done this accidently fiddling with the radio buttons?

Answer
Tell the son in-law to take a chill pill and shut up.
All things are possible, but YOU locked the door using
the key which is perfectly fine. HE is at fault by not relaying
how to use his alarm and the procedure to do it.
NOT YOUR FAULT.

You simply did what was right by locking the door.
When opened without the key, it triggered and
engaged starter kill. THAT is his fault
by not informing you of what to do.

Ok, an installer would place the velet switch in a semi
hidden area. I'd look under the dash area
for a button or, a toggle switch. When you locate it,
turn on the ignition key, press and hold in the
button (little spring loaded micro button, red or
black possibly), until the alarm chirps 1 time.
This should over ride the system, and only the
keyless entry part, if installed, would still be
operating.

The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. Once in Valet mode,
it will allow the car to start and operate
like there was no alarm at all.

You would then repeat these steps to reset it and
go back into "normal" mode.

Locate and try this to bring the alarm back in order.
Once done, then tell him it was actually his fault, and to
take his attitude and stick it where the sun
don't shine.

There simply is no respect
from our children anymore!

Good luck with it.
